August 06, 2010 • Christina Applegate & It’s a 10 Hair Care Join Forces To Raise Cancer Awareness

It’s a 10 hair care line is joining forces with Christina Applegate and her foundation, Right Action for Women in the fight against breast cancer and in the effort to raise breast cancer awareness by creating a Limited Edition pink bottle of It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In. A portion of each purchase will go to Christina’s Foundation, Right Action for Women.

Christina founded Right Action for Women in 2008 after receiving her own cancer diagnosis. Today, Christina is a cancer survivor and pregnant! She’s also a big fan of It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In. “This product is truly a miracle,” she says, “and I am so grateful to It’s a 10 for supporting Right Action for Women. During October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, proceeds from the sale will help women at high risk for cancer get the screenings they need to beat this disease.” The limited edition of It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In will be on shelves at the end of September through October and is available in beauty supply stores worldwide, including Regis, Hair Cuttery, GBS Beauty, Trade Secret, and many more.

July 30, 2010 • Christina Applegate: Cancer motivated me

Christina Applegate has said beating breast cancer motivated her to “make things happen”.

The actress underwent a double masectomy in July 2008 after being diagnosed with the disease.

“I think the urgency to have a good life is definitely a stronger element in my life now than it was before. I think I meandered, waiting for something to happen. Now I really try to make things happen right now,” she explained.

The actress, who voices the feline spy Katherine in new movie Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore, recently announced she was expecting a baby with fiance Martyn Lenoble.

Christina said humour helped her through the tough times.

“I always found (something) funny in everything I was going through, there are funny things – hospitals are funny!” she laughed.

And since recovering, the actress admitted she was learning to say “no” a lot more.

“I allow myself to get angry now, which I don’t think I ever did, to feel whatever it is you’re feeling and speak your mind,” she said. “I say ‘no’ so much now and it’s fantastic. I didn’t say ‘no’ before, I said ‘yes’ to everything.”

But the pregnant actress insisted she was saying ‘yes’ to “living life, resting and doing voice-overs for kids movies – things that will bring lots of joy to the littler folk”.

July 30, 2010 • Christina Applegate Launches Breast Cancer Charity

Actress Christina Applegate is set to launch her own cancer charity that will help women who can’t afford proper preventative care. Right Action For Women will offer programs to help give financial aid to high-risk women who cant afford to get MRIs. An MRI is one of the breast cancer screening tests recommended by the American Cancer Society for women at increased risk for breast cancer.

Unfortunately, many women are not undergoing genetic testing or having breast cancer screening tests because of financial burden or insurance limitations.

Applegate, a cancer survivor herself, gained an appreciation for the tremendous expenses associated with breast cancer screening and treatment during one of her many doctors visits.

“It’s unfortunate that insurance companies (in America) don’t cover the cost of that. It’s such an incredible device because you can find it at an early detection stage. We started our pilot programme and started helping women already, even though we aren’t launched.

“The other aspect of the programme is to do genetic counselling and help women understand what being high-risk means, and understanding what foods are good for their bloods and how to prevent this disease from happening. That has been my mission.”
